The Nations Capital Chapter Art Scholarship

The National Capital Chapter of the Society of Decorative Painters awards a
$500 Scholarship to a graduating senior who will be majoring in the visual arts.

Decorative Painting is defined as a diverse art form that utilizes a variety of
techniques and media to decorate functional and non-functional surfaces.  Some
examples are tole and craft painting on various surfaces.  Decorative Painting
also includes oil, water color and batik painting.  The NCC is a group of
non-professional and professional decorative artists.  Techniques and stroke
work are emphasized in painting.

This special award was established in 1995 by the National Capital Chapter to
recognize outstanding artistic achievement by a graduating senior from an area
high school.  The purpose of this award is to encourage the further study of
the visual arts.  NCC hopes to further awareness about the National Society
and to encourage the decorative arts.  All applicants will be notified by the end
of May and a $500 check will be awarded to the winner at the NCC July
luncheon.

Students must complete and submit the attached application to the Scholarship
Chair postmarked no later than May 1st.  Applications must include four (4)
color slides of art work completed within the last 2 years.  Digital art will not
be accepted due to the fact original artwork may be digitally enhanced.  (
Note: Slides will not be returned unless accompanied with a self-addressed
/postage-paid envelope)  Selection of a winner will be based on realism and the
quality of 2-d artwork.  Slide selection should exhibit technical skill using
various media
